Default having problems rotating crank while doing valve adj.

ok, guys I got the first cylinder done, I set it to TDC, and I'm moving onto Cylinder 3. When I try to turn the cam geat 90 degrees to the next spot, my bolt from the came gear comes undone and I can't move it.

I have tried to crank the engine to get it into the right spot, but that isn't working out.

Any Ideas how I can turn the came gear without un-doing the bolt???

thanks

bart

your supposed to rotate it from the crank pully bolt, not the cam gears.

Remove the spark plugs and take it out of gear. That should make it easier.

Use a longer lever arm. A little 8" long 3/8" drive ratchet only gonna make life harder.

Check your crank/cam timing mark alignment after you're done. You may have skipped a tooth or few.

ok, the car was in Nutral, and didn't have spark plugs in it.

I got that done. I just turned the cam gear counter-clockwise, but when I first started, I was scared no to snap-off the bolt.

ok, here's my latest problem

I done all the vavles to the exact specs in my haynes book and I tightend all the bolts, put on the valve cover and started-up the car.

All I hear is a ticking noise....and i'm scarred I fucked something up(first time doing vavle adjustment).

I turned it off imediatly.

Is it possible that I bent a valve(s)?

you sound like me...make sure you did the valves to the tighter end of the specs...double check and triple check....to me 3 valve adjustments to get it right

You either didn't tighten down the lock nut(s) properly - if the ticking is more like a tapping, or the clearances are too loose - do it over again.

Use the next biggest feeler gauge to double check your clearances.

when you tighten valves, your engine should be louder. valves wear tight... not loose. that's the reason why we don't adj. valves @ 90k unless the customer states they want it done. they seem to complain that it's louder... which is normal.
