Default hardly any brake

It's a 97 civic hatchback. With the cx motor it was braking fine but right after swapping to a b18c the car can hardly brake (pedal is all the way at the bottom). I was just wondering what you guys think it could be. So far I've bled the brakes at all 4 wheels (used those big bottles of brake fluid), bled the master cylinder, and checked the vacuum hose. Brake pads are still good. Thanks.

Isn't this how you test the brake booster??? ---> Pump brake pedal several times with engine off, hold pedal, start motor, and if the pedal goes down then the booster is good.

Then shut the car off and it should stay for about 30-40 seconds.

You use the term "brake pads"...

The 1997 Civic HB has rear drum brakes...did you change the rear drums to a disc brake setup?

The vacuum booster and master cylinder on disc/disc cars are different from disc/drum cars...disc/drum cars need a residual check valve in the rear.

In any case, the b18c motor comes from a disc/disc ITR?

Many possibilities...how car is Clearwater from Fort Lauderdale?

I think clearwater is pretty far from FTL... Sounds like a dying master cylinder... does the car still slow/stop when you floor the brakes ? Do you have to press HARD to stop ?

Oh, I remember now...I drove to that area from FTL last year to diagnose a brake issue on a customer's car...Terra Ceia Bay? Yup...long drive...

Front has disc and rear has the drum brakes. The car will stop but you will have to let go after the brake pedal sinks all the to the floor and depress the brake pedal again for better braking. Brake hoses look fine, sliders on capliper are good. Ft Lauderdale to Clearwater is somewhere around 2.5 to 3.5 hrs. I have no clue what's up. Could it be a bad master cylinder? Thanks for your help.

Ah...I saw this on my cousin's Integra...early RS.

He ended up replacing the master cylinder, and it was fine...

If the initial brake is soft and sinks, then comes up after a couple of pumps, then it is air. When the master goes, the pedal will constantly go to the floor on each pump

How did you bleed the brakes. That should be your problem.

I first bled the one farthest from the master cylinder and so on.

i just had the same problem with a 94 integra. when i hit the brakes the pedal would have some pressure, but then would go to the floor. I had a friend hit the brakes while i was under the hood and i could hear air leaking from the master or booster, one of the two. I replaced both and have no more problems. cost from a wrecking yard for both was $60

One more question. Should I get a cx master cylinder or a b18c master cylinder. If I was to get the the cylinder from the b18c would I have to get anything else done to the brake system. Thanks for the help.
