H23 DOHC Vtec NON Frankenstein HELP?
Sorry to bother with questions that you may here every day, but I must ask being that I am trying to do a proper but not so expensive build. Here is my current equipment.
H23 DOHC Vtec Blue Top (True Sir) – Cold air intake, Headers, Hi-flow Cat, 2.5” exhaust piping to OBX WS exhaust, B&M adjustable fuel regulator, Walboro 255lph Hi-flow fuel pump, Vision Hi-flow fuel filter.
5 speed LSD Trans (M2B4) – Stock prelude axles, 8lb. Fidanza flywheel, Centerforce Dual friction Clutch kit.
AEM EMS 10-20, Aem 30-2821 Twin-Fire Ignition, NGK BKR7E Spark Plugs (Equivalent V racing)
I have Skunk2 Turbo Stage 2 cams, Greddy 550cc Fuel injectors’ and plan on getting a turbo kit(T3/T4). Nothing to expensive I really don’t feel like blowing the motor. My problem is the Bottom build for this motor has to be custom made (Pistons, Rods, Sleeving, etc.) that roughly will cost over 3 grand in parts. I was suggested to build the top somewhat ie. 3 angle valve job, dual springs, titanium retainers, cam gears and possibility of 1mm thick over Oem head gasket to be safe. The labor won’t be a problem for most of it.
What I was thinking of getting was a fuel Rail (AEM or equivalent), Port throttle body, match intake port, AEM COP set up with AEM EPM. I would greatly appreciate your recommendation

Ok!! Thats not what i was saying. Calm down!! The H23A Vtec motor can be built but its not that easy the stroke and size of the pistons have to be custom made every place I called (JG,Wiesco etc.) wants me send them the pistons and rods to make them and it would roughly cost me over 1800 not to include the sleeves for the block being that its rare. No argument that there are built H23 but not many H23A vtec motors because the cost is outrageous. I am asking for leading help to finish the rest of the motor without abundance of cost. I can take criticizes but I'm asking for help.
maybe just get an extra shortblock (h22 with h23 crank) and build that up and throw it in for boost, so you dont have to deal with the headaches of finding parts for the bottom end. or im sure if you dont go boost crazy with a great tune, there will be no worries on the stock block.

What's the sense of taking h22 block and putting into it h23 crank? He will get the same h23 as he has now.
bighavic, the geometry of h23a vtec crank/pistons/rods is the same as in usual non-vtec h23 just mains are 55mm. You don't need custom pistons. Get CP Pistons SC7032. You can find h23 rods at Carillo, Crower, Briancrower and Spark Racing. First three are expensive, Sparks are pretty cheap but h-beams are out of stock, i-beams available.
And another headache: only h22 has oil squirters to cool down the pistons. You'll have to get them from h22 and install in your h23 to be on the safe side.
