Default H beam vs I beam rods

Why do so many people use "H" beam rods as opposed to "I" beam rods? Is it just because of cost or is there another reason?

Two way to achive the same goal. The are good rods in both styles. The Pauter rods are kind of a + style cross section.I think the H beam probably gives the most strength per pound.

From what I have been told at my machine shop is the H beam is stronger, the I beam is lighter (typically). I went with I beams since they will support far more power than I will make on an all motor setup with the possibility of spraying. For me a lighter rod is better. In the end between my rods and pistons I ended up shaving off 100-125 grams PER rod/piston assembly, which is about 1 lb off the rotating assembly.
