Default GSR VTEC vs Prelude VTEC

I used to drive a 95 Acura GSR and liked how the 3 various stages of VTEC (various length air intakes along with the actual cam changes) felt. It felt as if there was a wider power band which starts in the midrange just before the VTEC spool motor does its thing. I just drove a 97 Prelude and I noticed that there's not much power until around 5000 (which is higher than the GSR) rpms when the VTEC kicks in. I found that I had to keep the revs up all the time to have fun compared to the GSR motor which had more power (or torque) in the midrange.
My question is, does the Prelude VTEC have various length air intakes like the GSR or does it just have a spool motor which changes the cams?

GSR's dont have more torque than H22's. 120 for the GSR compared to 156 for the H22. an H22 will spank a GSR. you have it the other way around; GSR's need to be revved high in order to have fun. I dont have to downshift from 5th on the highway to fly in my H22/Civic

The GSR is 128 BTW. My registration says 2594lbs.

You are comparing the torque of an H22 in a CIVIC, not a Prelude as the original poster was asking about. The Lude is 2954lbs unless it is an SH which is 3042lbs. What does your Civic weigh?

The Prelude does have a better torque to weight ratio then the GSR. SCC did a comparison of the GSR, ITR, Prelude, and Celica about 3 years ago. They included graphs of the acceleration in different gears and the GSR and Prelude were almost exactly the same, gear for gear. I think it was an SH model Prelude.

If the midrange was soft, and you could not hear the intake change over, I wonder if it was working correctly?

the 5th gen is a better competitor for the gsr, but a 4th gen vtec, it wouldn't be close
