Default GSR or TypeR tranny for the track?

I've been told that by using B16 or TypeR tranny you drop from 1/2 to 1 second on the 1/4 mile run. What do you guys think? Can I get some help? I don't know what to buy, I just broke my LS tranny. LS-VTEC TURBO @ 15PSI

the b16 YS1 tranny will be better for track but i don't know about a 1sec shave off your current time, it will definatly be better then your LS tranny. As for the type R tranny, that would be your best pick. Good gear ratios and comes with LSD. The LSD will benifit you greatly at 15psi to catch traction. If you aren't already running slicks, get some good ones and slap on a type R tranny. you won't be dissapointed.

ps. no brainer but dont forget a good racing clutch

But the 2nd and 3 rd suck on the LS
Last time on track I almost got taken by a K20. I caught her and passed her at the last 1/3 of the track.

i love how people say the gearing is too short I run 400+ whp on a type R tranny no problems at all shift fast and keep the turbo spooled with no issues.

SHORTER GEARING = QUICKER ACCELERATION

how should we know what you mean by track.

most people don't like to shift into 5th in the 1/4th

you gotta play with the gearing calcs and the ratios to figure out what ratios suit you best.

track size/type
racing type
tire size
powerband,
revlimit, etc.

Can we get our money back

I run the ITR tranny with 600+whp and trap 140+mph in the 1/4. A lot has to do with tire size, rev limit, etc. as Bense has stated. If you are having issues shifting into 5th gear in the 1/4 mile, rev the car higher or go to a bigger tire size.
