GSR Tranny Problem
Ok Im getting ready to buy a complete Gsr swap. Im getting a pretty good deal on the motor because im getting it from a friend. Right now its in his Del Sol and I was driving it the other night and I noticed that it scraped when I put it into 5th gear. He told me it also scraps going into 4th at high Rpm. Is this a really big problem that needs to be fixed right away. Also does anybody know about how much its going to cost to fix it. Thanks for the help.
It most likely is synchros or shift forks starting to go. I can be a variety of other things also. Does he have a short shifter? This can play a role as the driver may be trying to shift faster than the tranny will allow. /
I would be concerned with a transmission in this kind of condition usually its an indicator that the engine and trans have been abused in this case sounds like highway racing to me.
Still depending on the age of the motor and the fact it would actually be a gsr is a very good find regardless of tranny problems. Just be sure to know what is happening up front ie take the drain plug out and check for shavings ect, and i would def do a compression check on the motor first before even discussing a sale.
good luck
