GSR Secondaries?
I plan on getting a chipped P28 ECU for my GSR. Right now it has stock IM, but later I plan on getting the Skunk2. Will the chip still work the same or will it get fukked up because of no more secondaries? Thanks for your help(tried searching)
I personally hate the secondaries, but the GSR "snail" manifold is my favorite along with the P72 cylinder head... There are several different ways the the P28 can be chipped, different progs change the IAB's too... Some people that chip the P28 put an override in that keeps the secondaries open all the time... All it takes is a constant 12v+ signal to the IAB vac solenoid... You can also just pull the vacuum line off the IAB actuator (the vacuum controlled arm that closes when vac. is applied).. Also some ROMs are actually programmed to keep a constant signal on... Anytime I run a chipped P28 or any other non IAB controlled computer I just pull out the entire plate... It's pretty simple and really a lot easier... There are just some things i hate about the GSR ECU and the secondaries in the manifold... #1 if you have say ITR or CTR cams the motor seems to bog really bad down low when VTEC x's over... I just think that ~4400 is too low... then it doesn't pull good till the IAB's open up... It basically just feels like the motor is lagging to me... Hope this helps and Good Luck... Peace
i have ctr cams in a gsr. before vtec it laggs or boggs out. but up in the high rpms i can feel it scream.
If you try to engage VTEC without adequate oil pressure it won't even open up (there is not enough pressure to lock the rockers)... However your oil pressure should be fine anywhere from 4000rpm+... Powerwise you want to have the ECU swap to the high cam fuel maps when VTEC is opened... Engaging VTEC before the maps have been changed is just going to have negative affects on your motors performance... Latez
