Default GSR Idle problems!

Hey I have an EG with a GSR swap and since I did the swap (1 year ago) the idle had been high and bouncing only when the car was cold. I figured it was the FITV. I decided to put a Skunk 2 IM on and a Brand new FITV from honda. Now the car has a high idle when the engine temp is hot or cold. Its bouncing between 1500 rpm and 2500 rpm. I sprayed carb cleaner around all the gaskets, vacuum hoses and sensors and the idle does not change. The idle does change when I plug the holes inside the TB. When i plug both its a 500 rpm. just the FITV it changes to 1500 rpm constant. I unplugged all the sensors and all of them popped a code for each sensor i unplugged. Any ideas of what this could be?

Take the throttle body off and take picture of the throttle body gasket on the intake manifold. More than likely you have leaky area near FITV or IACV. Carb cleaner won't pick it up because it's an internal leak at the gasket. In some cases the gasket has to be modified to block exposed passages that are not present on the intake manifold side.

I'm not saying your gasket is bad, I'm saying it does not cover the passages correctly. If the gasket fits perfectly and is not blocking any passages even slightly then you IACV may be stuck open. Easy test to determine this would be place finger over upper hole in throttle body, the idle should die down. If the engine is warm enough, the idle should be ~750-800 rpm

Ok well maybe when I get a chance I will take off the tb again and check it.

Ok, You were right about the gasket.below are some pictures of my TB, intake manifold and the gasket. So how do i get a gasket that will work? So i wont be using a FITV anymore since there are no passages? It appears the bore is off even

Use an OEM gasket OBD2 B-series (Non automatic, because they still use FITV) The
above gasket in your pic is not matched to your throttle body intake entrance. I'd recommend doing that to take advantage of the larger Skunk2 Intake manifold opening. However, with an OEM gasket you will have to open up the bore manually to match the skunk2 manifold.

...Or get aftermarket throttle body gasket such as P2R.

This gasket is 65mm and will not require you to manually open up the bore to port-match with your skunk2 manifold. (Do not get the 94-95 GSR OBD1 gasket, it's the same as your OEM gasket above)

Btw, you could use honda bond or a similar sealant to solve the problem. Just apply it over the parts of the gasket that is cut out for the FITV. This is sort of a worse case scenario solution. You could cut some gasket material to fill the cut out opening also. Again, don't recommend it.

Would it hurt to change to an OBD2 Throttle body that does not contain the FITV? Would my IAC still work fine with that setup?

If you wanted to spend the extra money, you could switch but it's really not worth it. Your throttle body is fine. I'd recommend sending it off to maxbore, or replacing it with an aftermarket throttle body (be aware of billet sticking throttle bodies). If you replace your gasket like I said before, you could keep your throttle body /w fitv. The intake manifold not having provisions for it will act like a block off.

Ok well here is where i'm lost:

This is my Intake manifold. Notice only one passage

Here is a felpro OBD 2 GSR gasket and there are 2 passages

here is a 99 SI felpro gasket with 3 passages

and last but not least here is an oem 99 GSR gasket with the 3 passages

All you're trying to do is block the FITV passages, without leaving a gap like your current gasket. Any obd2 (non auto) gasket will accomplish that. Felpro, OEM or P2R etc. Spend the 10 dollars and trust me. Forget the other passages as long as you have fitv blocked in this case you will be fine.

The 99si felpro and the 99 GSR OEM gasket above are the same. The oddball is the felpro obd2 gasket. However, you can't judge by their online pictures that will be the product you purchase. I've seen many companies (especially advance, autozone, etc) that use wrong images for products they are representing.

Thanks a bunch for all your help man. I used the obd2 gasket and it the idle doesnt bounce or anything. the only odd ball thing i would say is that when all the way warmed up it idles at about 950 rpm
