Default gsr +2g's vs. type R

since jdm gsr's are about $2000 cheaper than jdm type R's , will the $2000 make a jdm gsr faster than a type R.

conditions:
1.both engine's will have I/H/E so the $2000 will go to other misc. parts (cams, pistons, mani,ecu...)
2.NA build up

reliability is also a consideration

what would you do?

-searched but the prices for jdm gsr's have changed drastically so im wondering if they're worth the price now...

I would go with gsr +2g's.You could head package and maybe some type r pistons for about 2g's.

I say, get the geezer engine, and see if you can get a type r tranny

...or just add the ITR/CTR differential to the GSR tranny. The gearing differences aren't worth the price premium IMO, but the LSD is. I found one used, but in mint condition for $230. No bearings though.

so it looks like gsr would be the better choice, since the price is right...any other opinions

yep, GSR engine w/$$ to spend on a semi-build up sounds most reasonable. Try to buy a JDM GSR engine w/LSD tranny, so if you ever want to go with ITR/CTR gearing, all you need is 2-5 gear(s).

Or just go with a 4.785 final drive in the JDM GSR tranny; which will enhance the acceleration to that of an 'R' tranny, if not slightly better.

Based on my findings, the GSR is only about $1000 cheaper. With this difference, I would definitely go B18C5.

My gsr motor was about 2200 cheaper and i went through the same thought process you did and went with the gsr. The type r just seemed like too much to spend for a used motor for me just my opinion though.

well the sit. is dif. for me because if i want my motor to be smog legal i have to get the 99+ ver. of the C5 so its around 4,700 where as i have seen the gsr for 2,700 and you can prolly wheel n deal em a lil more.
