I like the B16b just because it makes more power/liter and should be able to rev higher/ last longer at high revs. I just like it, it's my type of motor....

Ultimately though, the b18c5 is a Honda engine and as such will last plently long while at the same time making more power. It's also around the same price. It's kind of useless getting the ctr, then. I still don't fully understand why Honda even made the ctr engine....

b16b = destroked b18c5
b18c5 = more torque

96coupe is correct,

B16B is basically the same casting i.e. has the same deck height as the B18C blocks, but with a B16 crank, shot peened rods, and PCT pistons. Therefore, if you can't find a B18C block, you can always look to the JDM CTR blocks, find the corresponding B18C crank and rods and you have a B18C short block.

The main thing I don't like about the b16b is that it is a destroked b18c5, and yet the redline is the same. This doesn't make sense to me...It'd be my perfect motor if they only took advantage of the destroking.

I keep hearing people saying the b16b has a 9000rpm redline. I'm not 100% sure about it's redline, anyone got any links?

i just wanna make sure i got this right...CTR motor has the same "deck-height" as the B18 motors? So its has a higher deck-height then nomal B16 motors, right?

CTR has the same deck height as the b18c motors. CTR has a higher deck-height than the normal b16 motors.

I think the b18a and b motors have a lower deck height than the CTR.

Nope, pretty sure all b18a/b/c have the same deck as the b16b.

how can the ctr be the same deck height as b18 blocks not possible it is 1.6 liter especially if its the same bore 81.mm same as b18 blocks. the only differnce between the 2 would be the stroke therefor deck height being higher for longer stoke of the c5.

basically the b16b is the same other than the casting as your normal b16 less the higher compression and bigger cams

Incorrect. The B16b is the same deck height as B18c. Differences can easily be made up with the crank and rods.

Hey what is up. Alright here is a little info. First of all the B18C5 is a US Integra type R motor not JDM. As far as power goes for the to motors. The B16B makes out 185hp @ 8200rpms with 118 ft/lbs tor. @ 7500 rpms vs. the B18C5 makes 195hp @ 8000rpms with 130ft/lbs tor. @ 7500. They are both very good motors. The B16B you will find for cheaper than the B18C5. Also the B16B has more agressive ECM Setting. Well good luck they are both great choices.

old-school link but call me crazy>

http://www.g-speed.com/pbh/b16a/

the B16B seems to have the same deck height as B16a @ 263mm.
B18C blocks are 270mm. These were measured by hand and posted
a while ago.

there is also a difference in the blocks that measures the piston to
deck height in the bore. On the compression calculator on c-speedracing.com t
here is a allowance for this and it is a different value for B16 and B18 blocks.
.0020" for B16A/B and .0030" for B18B/C1/5/B20B/Z blocks respectively.

based on this the blocks are not the same

Sorry, but i believe that would be mis-info. Look for Katman's pic of the decks where he illustrates the difference. I'll see if I can find it. Either way I have both blocks I'll measure and take pics.

here's the pic you're looking for:

For the record, all makes of the 'B18C' & B16B use a P72 block:

The P72 block and LS/B20 blocks, both have a 7mm raised deck height over the regular old B16A block.

A B16B has a 1.6 crank in it , yes, but has a longer rod to make up for the 7mm in deck height.

It's as simple as that.
No hidden secrets about it.
Why don't people people understand this yet?!
It's been 5 frikkin years since the frikkin B16B has been around!
Get with the frikkin program people!

Or go with the 210 hp B18C ITR JDM motor.

Side note: We got both our motors in tonight...yeah

Haha, thanks Katman. Damn I guess I took those pics for no reason then

Edit: Well since I wasted my time taking pics of the blocks, I'm posting them anyways.
