Default GSR 2 stage Vtec, how does it work?

What is the trick behind the Integra GSR's 2 stage VTEC? I notice this from stock GSR engines. I can tell by the sound of the engine that the VTEC engages at @4500rpm, but I don't really feel any power until the engine revs up to 6500rpm. But at 6500rpm you feel that sudden boost of power. It's more different than when it is a rpm of 4500. Why is that? Anyone know the magic behind this? I know that it is because of the ECU. I don't get why the engine is feels so weak when it engages in the first stage of VTEC compared to the second boost. I've been looking around Google for a while and haven't found the answer so I came here for help.

It's the secondary runners on the intake manifold opening. not vtec.

I believe it has something to do with the engine and ecu, not the manifold, because I disabled the second runner flaps.

I’m having the same questions. I have a full stock GSR swap in my ej8 and am running the stock manifold on a CHIPPED P28!!! With the vacuum lever on runner zip tied up, and all of the IAB vacuum lines disconnected. (Running FPR straight to manifold instead of the IAB vacuum splitter).

I AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING. I hear vtec crossover at 4400, and when I hit 6000 the actual crossover takes place with a real boost of power.

we need the actual schematics of how the inside of this manifold works if anyone has

It's all over the internet. There is no sorcery. You can enable the IABs on your P28 using an extra output (and possibly a relay, I forget if that is necessary or not) - obviously you'll have to burn a new chip.

Vtec engages at 4400, which isn't very audible, then 5750 the IAB's open. They are much more audible. If your ecu is chipped and has them flipped, you'll have a sizeable power loss between the engagement points. Vtec would be engaging late, IAB's opening early. A stock B16 computer opens vtec later than it needs to, also leading to a 'pop' in power and sound.

Google "ab0ve honda manuals" (first is a zero, not the letter o) and you find PDF's that have electrical schematics along with everything else you could possibly need.
