NEVER EVER EVER BUY THIS CLUTCH!!!

i bought the stage 2 clutch from them with the 10.9 lb grc flywheel.

i broke it in as suggested, and got it professionally installed!

after the 500 miles.... i started giving it to her slowly..i put on about 2000 miles on her since the install.

then today i gave it hard.. blew the clutch... my car wouldnt go into gear anymore after that...

so for anyone looking for this clutch.. THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION BASED ON EXPERIENCE!

DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME! go with ACT

UPDATE:

The clutch was taken out of the car yesterday.

The pressure plate broke into 4 pieces... i'm stunned how this could happen to a stage 2 clutch?
I wasnt launching the car or anything.. just gave it gas on second gear...

I send pictures to gripforce, i'm awaiting for a reply.

Ill post pics when i get the chance.

 

the same thing happened to my ACT Street strip then I put a new 6 pluck act w/ a new pressure plate and a pluck broke off after about 3 months. I do not trust ACT.

i have used 3 act clutches, one went nearly 60k miles without an issue, the other has been on for 10k miles and the 3rd one is in the car that went 60k mile already, jstu repalced the disc and am all good.

 

Hit up LSD motorsports in the sponsors section.There 6pack clutches are very reasonably priced and they work awesome.

 

Ok..new update..

They refuse to replace/refund the clutch because they say "it wasnt installed properly!"

They gave a bullshit excuse how there was oil on the clutch?! How could there be oil in the clutch?
They said there were burn marks all over the pressure plate, i'm like..no ****! i had to drive the car to the nearest gas station for like 2 miles in second gear crawling because the clutch was slipping like crazy and wouldnt come out of gear or go into any other!

I was there for the install, they even used a cleaner for the contact surfaces!! all bolts were torqued to specs etc!

As for the flywheel..the teeth does not match up perfectly with my starter and makes a grinding noise everytime i started the car.

Their whole warranty is BULLSHIT, they will blame it on something else, if not abuse, it will be install or some crap.

NEVER BUY THIS CLUTCH! my stock clutch performed waay better than this!

I think their only good product is the exedy oem replacement, but mine came in the same box, so who knows if it really is exedy.

Im a very disappointed customer!

Dont even think twice, go for a reputeable company.

 

Did you purchase the clutch with a credit card? If so, get them to refund your money.

so i also heard oem exedy replacement clutch is bad too, cluch plate gets broken, around spring area. i guess stage 1 is ok tho.

The ebay store yes, and also their clutches...

dont even try the stage1...its an oem replacement disc with just a harder pressure plate, its gonna eat up that disc fast...

I suggest go with ACT or with one of the sponsors on this board. Thats what i'll be doing next.

 

i have only used Centerforce but I have 46k on my clutch, and that counts burnouts, track launches, daily driving. I'm laying downs 121whp/123wtq if that makes any difference.

ACT sucks, they dont last more than 60k, i pull them out all the time, the worst ive seen was that it ate up the flywheel and pressure plate, no wear on the disk at all, want a good clutch....go get a clutchnet clutch, if your local dealer doesnt have one then order it online... clutchnet.com ...its worth it...cheaper than a ACT too...mine has been on for about 110k before it started slipping....and its been through about 15 bottles of NOS...ran 12s with it...no problem what so ever...

I tend to prefer the Exedy clutches. The organic (stage 1) Exedy holds alot more power than you would think. The stage 2--3 puck copper ceramic is very stiff (at least for a cable trans) but lasts along time and can hold alot of torque. Exedy is owned by Daiken which makes all the OEM Honda clutches.

 

i just put in a gripforce f1 stage 3 kit in my car today.. so far is seem ok. a little rough to engage but no other problems yet. i hope its ok for a while

 

I was considering this clutch myself. Now i'm going to think about it. how's the flywheel??

That's not a dumb question. I'm surprised people are giving opinions without even knowing your set-up or HP.

You could have exceeded the rating for their particular clutch, I dont know.

All I can say is that Ive installed numerous ACT, Exedy, and ClutchMasters clutches without any issues.

I have some buddies with Turbo Hondas pushing over 500+hp daily driven with RPS clutches with no problems.

My daily driven street legal 12 second CRX has gone through many HPDE, autocrossing, and drag race events without any trouble with the ClutchMasters Stage 3 clutch ( full face disk ).

As a matter fact, I snapped a GATOR AXLE at the line last summer with 22 inch M+H slicks.

Im replacing the stock ITR 11 to pistons with some CP 12.5 to 1 this year and when I pulled the motor, the ClutchMasters clutch and aluminum flywheel still looks mint.

Good luck with your ordeal. Ive never dealt with anything from GripForce, but I did have a customer tell me his AIMCO ( ebay ) clutch only lasted him a few months when he dropped a bone stock JDM B16 in his DA Integra. He's probably only pushing 140hp at the wheels.

 

I don't have any experience with this company so for all know this set may be a piece of **** but first of all they don't make clutches, they are OE parts bought from third party vendors - according to their web site. Companies like Sachs and Luk make some good ****. Of course, they may have mixed and matched parts to make a 'performance' clutch kit and the parts may not work well together - that would be bad engineering on their part.

As far as their warranty, if you admitted to driving it 2 miles 'crawling' with the clutch slipping like crazy in second gear there is no way I would give you your money back either. You totally fried what may have just been a broken spring or something and made it look like you were dumping the clutch left and right or didn't know how to drive and slipped the clutch - not saying that's what you did, but I'm sure that's what it would look like. Damn that thing must have smelled after 2 miles of slipping! Also, had you stopped there wouldn't have been any heat checking on the flywheel and that wouldn't be ruined (if it is) - that is your fault, end of story. Why couldn't you have the car towed? Obviously the car was undriveable. Were you stuck in the middle of the desert two miles away or something?

Why would the shop say it was 'installed incorrectly' if you had just said you drove it for 2 miles crawling to a gas station. There would be no way to tell, the thing would be so fried. Or did you not tell them that and you were just thinking it?

Friction material is a sticky situation when it comes to warranties. Premature wear of both brake material and clutches can almost always be attributed to the driver (or the car if it was set up wrong but if you know anything about the car you should be able to sense when the clutch is slipping and prevent further damage). The only way clutch material will burn away and the iron surfaces it mates with become heat checked is through relative motion between the disk and the flywheel/pressure plate.

You also never said how much power this car has. If this company only sells OE clutches under the Gripforce name then I guarantee they were not meant to handle huge amounts of power.

You can cancel the charges on your CC but they can hit you back with fees and they will get it assuming they performed the transaction properly.

You violated their warranty by misusing the product (driving while broken) and you admitted it to the world on this board.

A word of advice for the future: Companies don't like it when you bad mouth them so in this case there is pretty much no chance of getting your money back unless they feel like being good guys. Next time something like this happens, STOP. Do not drive the car. You are liable for any damage caused after you realize that something is not right. It doesn't matter if you are late for work or school, that's not their problem. However most companies in this industry are pretty cool about things and know how it is and adhere to the 'squeaky wheel gets the grease' philosophy and will basically pay you off by replacing the part to keep you happy so you will tell everybody how cool they were - but you've got to play the game right. If you you walk in shooting, they're not going to want to do it. You gotta be cool to them, know what you are going to say and what you are not going to say before you talk to them, and they generally will be cool - unless they're total dicks and they are some small vendor owned by a hot-head who runs his business out of his garage. I don't deal with people like that, I'd rather deal with someone I know is going to be there if something goes wrong without flying off the handle even if it means paying a few bucks extra.

 

I was stuck in the middle of the road at rush hour, i didnt want to cause traffic. Yes.. it stunk like hell driving it to the gas station. Im pushing roughly 190 whp on a sohc turbo setup. THe clutch was a stage 2 setup for gripforce and rated to 250 whp..

when we opened up the tranny, a part that holds the pressure plate disc was broken off. They just automatically assumed that it was installed incorrectly. As for voiding the warranty by driving it "broken"... it shouldnt have broke in the first place.

As for this post, i've already tried dealing with them prior to making this thread.

ive had my gripforce stage 2 clutch in my crx for a while now about 75,000 and ive had no problems at all. this is the second clutch ive bought from them n the other one ran fine i jus replaced it because i had to put in a new input shaft bearing so might as well do the clutch. the last clutch had 135,000...i drive alot and even in heavy traffic the clutch worked great for me. i have a sohc zc non-vtec i/h/e chipped ecu not to much power but when i go to the track and launch hard it does great. maybe u jus got a bad clutch happens to every brand. as for warrenty i duno.
