we just put the car on jacks...its not coming from under the car..its around the top. we made sure it is extremely screwed in tightly
anyone know what might be causing this? i heard theres a gasket that goes between the headers and the engine.they say i need a gasket that connectgs the 2 to be made out of copper or nickel. what do you think? thanksb
Well first off, you can't just bolt on a header & assume everything's fine.
You need to follow the torque specs. I believe mine is 14 lbs of torque. Every bolt must be torqued evenly or you may warp the head. So get out your manual or search around & find the torque specs for your eclipse. Then rebolt everything. That should fix the problem
*torque wrenches can be expensive, so if you dont have one you should find someone that does.

Well yeah you definately need gaskets. There shoulde 3 total. (where it bolts to the head, where it connects to the 2nd piece, and where it connects to the cat)

Yeah sounds like an exhaust leak in only one of the runners, probably from the gasket connected to the head. I just put a new header on, and my 10 year old gasket works fine, so i dono. Definately torque them to specs...
i have 3 gaskets.... the leak i hear...it comes from exactly from between the gasket and the engine. i do have a gasket in all 3 spots. i have one between the headers and the engine. the gasket i am using between the head and the headers came with the headers. its not anywhere near the cat etc....its definetly between the head and the headers.
So you are saying use a torque wrench? how exactly do those work?
If the torque wrench idea does not work, what should i do?
Thanks

The torque wrench WILL work. If it still leaks your gasket is probably shot. Get a new one and torque it down to specs. Problem solved.
*A torque wrench has a "dial" on it that you can set to different lbs of torque, they're fool proof. They can be expensive but they're nice to have, since most of ur engine components require a certain amount of torquing.
