Default Going Through Alternators Like Water

At first I thought it was just faulty alts (I believe 2 of em were), but going through 5 within one yr's period, there's somethign seriously wrong. With B16A1 (in CRX), I know u can choose between the 90-91 teg or 95 DelSol DOHC Vtec model, so I went with the Delsol model. I dunno if this is causing the problem or something else with my electrical system. It's more of a matter of annoyance to havign to keep changing alts more then anything.
Can anyone suggest possible reasons behind all these alt replacements. BTW, my alt pulley also has a little dent on it but I don't think that is causing all these probs....

thx

Is it a mechanical failure or an electrical failure?

you didnt say if it failed mech or elec! if it failed mech(bearings?) i would say that your small dent even if small at 4000+ rpm could be enough to create an oscillation that could chew up your bearings...heard of that b4 anyway. im also wondering if you have a system. do ya? then our problem gets more complicated!
then it could be as simple as something like a bad ground. i dont know 2much about elec on these cars, but i nkow there are self-exciting and non"""type alts.
i cant tell you exactly what that means, but i know you cant substitute one for another-dont know if honda uses both kinds....hmmmm? maybe if you give us more info we can help

i guess after wasting all the money on the alternators, why didn't u just invest in a new pulley if you knew it was dented???

It would be an electrical failure. Mech wise, the bearings and so forth all look alright. As for the pulley, I am looking for an aftermarket one as of moment...

But actually I found out what happened. The person who put my alt in last put in a D series instead of B series due to fitment issues. So now i gotta find time to hammer the wall to make the b18a pulley fit.

Anyways, thx for the responses.

PS> Know anyone selling an aftermarket alt pulley for cheap?

Hey I had the same problem when I had my 91 CRX w/ B16A. The conclusion I came to is the alternators from parts stores suck. After I bought 1 from honda I never had that problem again. BTW the alternator from the dealer was around $300.00
