Getting a professional inspection
Hello, a few months ago I purchased a 98 Civic DX with 64k Miles.
I have a good mechanic who charges me very cheap labor, hes done it his whole life. Hes gone over my car, but I feel like I have a good chance to have a 3,000 car go for another 200k miles cheaply.
Where can I get a true, bumper to bumper crazy checklist type of inspection done? I only need the inspection, my mechanic can then use the information from the report. He just says I'm being ridiculous wanting a true inspection.
Who offers it, whats it called and how do I ask for it? Any experience explained would be nice as well. Thank you.

Listen to your mechanic. Asking your mechanic for a "true" inspection is about as insulting as you can get. As if he's unqualified all of a sudden after years and years of working on your car. As if you don't trust what he's telling you. And this inspection will tell you what exactly? Anything that fails will fail regardless. Any scheduled maintenance should be done, regardless.
BTW it's usually called a 40 point inspection and those places that offer such inspections are usually scammers and will probably tell you something desperately needs replacing and quote you a ridiculous price to repair it. After which you'll take it back to the mechanic that you spit on.

noobs confuse mechanics with magicians.
mechanics can tell some things by listening and looking.
but a "true" as you call it inspection can be done by completely disassembling the car and engine and inspecting every single part for wear and making sure they are within specs.
each car has its own set of problems that a good mechanic will check for.
