getting pissed off
i recently did another swap in a 4door 6th gen, finished it, lowered in on the ground and drove out to the road. as soon as i turned out of my driveway to the road it started clunking and i could feel it in the steering wheel and floorboard.
i replaced the axles, torqued all the nuts on the ball joints, luguts, axles nuts today and drove it again........ahh to my wonderful surprise it still makes this clunk.
only when i turn left or right, in a straight line it makes no noise and there is no vibration. no clunk when i accel or decel, just turning.. and it doesn't matter if i'm turning from a stand still or make a turn off the road while driving. has anyone ever had this problem.
it's a B16A with a Y21 LSD tranny...if that helps
i was just wondering if there is any possible way that you can not get the ball joints seated all the way even after torquing them?
thanks in advanced

Sounds like something with the steering rack or with the steering arms that go onto the knuckle.
I would inspect the steering column, inspect where the column goes onto the steering track, the arms that have the rubber boot on them, as well as the ball joints.
Do you have power steering?
keep us posted.

yes i have power steering, is it possible to not seat the ball joints with them torqued to the specs
*shrug- knowing that anything is possible*
oh damn, it kinda woobles alittle bit too

Not really, unless it popped out. The steering arm moves around on the ball joint? It shouldn't move at all other than the ball joint turning inside the socket to turn.

Lets get this straight: the noise happens when your are still and turning the steering wheel or when the car is moving while the steering wheel is turned to say 6 o'clock and held there?
what i meant was that if i come to complete stop to make a turn it makes the noise once i start to roll forward and turn. and then when i'm on the road driving, i slow down and make a turn at faster speeds.. get it?
anyway, i think it is in the steering rack.....

ok here is the update, i about started beating the car with a sledge hammer and realized that the power steering pump sounded kinda funny....so i popped the freakin' cap off the reserve and it was bone dry, no wait a minute it was so ******* dry that i could see the plastic flaking...........grrrrrrrrr anyway i filled it up, bleed it and then took it for a test drive........
HAHA no more clunk, click and every other noise it was making. i guess when i put everything back together i completely forgot to fill it. so a couple of
for me. and i just happy that i did not burn the pump up. the only thing that got me was that it was not any harder to steer. oh well it is fixed now, thanks
