Default getting head milled, question of prep?

OK hypothetical question here..

say I wanted to get my head milled down some(say .04)
to bump up the compression in my engine.

nothing wrong with the motor like a blown hg or anything,
just want the higher comp..

So would I need to dismantle the head before taking it to the machine shop?
like pull the rockerarm assembly/cam/valves, etc... ??

Or can I just pull the head, and give it to the shop to have it shaved?

thanks.
btw it's a sohc d15b head..

Well the one i went to i took it to them whole and they disassembled it and reassembled it. I would call the machine shop and see what they say.

i think you should take it apart for this reason. after the milling it should be hot tanked, and things like valve seals can be damaged by tanking.

last year i had a z6 head milled, tanked and bead blasted as well as a 3 angle valve job (to ensure the valves would seat again properly after they were removed for the machining). the machine work cost me 240 bucks, and a set of 16 oem valve seals was like 60 bucks i think.

aye yay yay,
thats alittle more than I had bargained for.

I'm trying to squeeze some cheap hp out of my setup, as from what I've read, and can tell,
10:1 is the optimum comp for a jrsc setup,
currently i'm at like 9.3, so I figure the mill should get me around 9.8 or so..

then I'll have to have it retuned(more money).

but anyways,
I'm wondering if it's possible to just have it milled, and NO hot tank ?
the head is already a pretty clean specimen to begin with.

well there are other alternatives then milling the head down...you can look into a thinner head gasket.

either way, call me and ill let you know the cost of milling and the cost of a HG....

and yes you will have to take the head apart.
