Default getting closer to figuring out b16 woes

my friend who wrecked the car called the tech at honda today and she(yeah I know ) said the problem is either the coil or the ignitor(what the hell is the ignitor? a little summary for those who have no idea what I'm talking about...I have an ef si b16(1st gen)..friend wrecked it and ecu is spitting code 15..ignition output signal bad...and the engine won't spin when key is turned...we got the engine to spin by hooking 12v up to starter connecting blade, but the car wouldn't turn over...

anyone got any more help for me

ignitor's inside the distribitor. Take the cap off, only three bolts. If you have someone to rebuild it, always good, but an aftermarket Ignition/getting rid of the stock coil would do it too, allthough its more expensive.

But if the starter wouldn't even try when you turned the key, sounds like there's something else. The motor will turn over till your battery runs out even without a spark

You need to figure out your no crank issue before you start on the no start.

ill say distributor as well, invest in an obd1 gsr or del sol distributor, and simply wire it up correctly...1st gen distributors are garbage
you can't simply wire up an obd1 dist in an EF, they have different wheel layouts and different numbers of teeth on the crank trigger. wont work. and why do you think 1st get dists are garbage? any factual basis for that?

well I got it to my friends's dad who is a mechanic so I will leave the hard stuff to him I did all I could with-in my knowledge...I am gonna tlak to him this week and see if he made any progress. but we got the car to "crank" but it won't turn over as in start. anyway, it did start today(when we hooked the 12v to the starter)... it seems to only start when it is cold. and I know it has something to do with the ignition output signal. I guess the ignition switch is also shot, cause can't find any other reason why it won't crank from the ignition(key). Thanks for all the help. H-T=

Possible cause on hard to crank:

Bad engine ground;
Corrosion on the signal wire @ the starter solenoid;
or the solenoid itself.

As for the distributor, easiest is to borrow a known good obd0 distirbutor and try.
Even B18A one will work, you only need to tighten one leg and try starting the car.

1st distributors are not garbage, they are just car parts that are getting pretty old.
