GearSpeedEF7 question for ya
Seems like you are the expert on trannys here. I sent you a message on myspace. THought it would be easier but, guess you frequent these boards more. Anyhow... GOt a tranny problem and was wondering if you would be able to help.
long story short. gsr tranny. quaife differential.
car shifts into all gears fine. I can accelerate in all gears and speedometer will work with each gear. Problem is the car isnt moving. THe axles are locked in. They do spin freely though. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

There has to be something wrong with the differential!
If the speedometer works, then the main body of the differential is spinning. The drive gear for the speedometer is on the main body, next to one of the bearings.
If the axle's are not spinning (and I'm talking about the "inside" CV joint, then the spider gear shaft is broken. I REALLY find it hard to believe that this is possible with a Quaife, but not un-common for a standard differential.
Another possibility would be that the splines on the axles, or inside the spider gears are stripped out.

sweeet. not that I have problems. but that someone has knowledge of this and can help. So, I can almost rule out the possibility of the gears and just focus on the differential?? So, is there any way to tell without tearing out the differential??

Am I assed out of a Quaife differential or is it rebuildable? Sure like to know what would have caused it to fail. Anybody have any ideas??
thanks. I looked up quaife and it says it does. Too bad the shop that did all the work went out of business and I dont have **** to prove I had them install it.
Before I pull the tranny and "try" to take it apart....does anyone know of any 100% way to know its the differential? OK. better question. If I can see the "complete" axle spin up to where it joins with the transmission, can I rule out the possibility of it being the axles.
If I can shift in all gears and the speedometer reads all gears, can I safely say that it is between the differential and the axles?
