Default Fuel System Cleaners

Does anyone have an experience with fuel system cleaner...i was looking at some STP Gas Treatment stuff where you pour it into your gas tank and its suppose to clean your fuel system..Does it really work?..is there any risk of doing this?

there is a slight risk because if its never been done before you may kick a bunch of **** loose and clog the strainer or fuel filter. i wouldnt worry about it tho, just clean it reguarly (every 6 months is good). wouldnt hurt to change the fuel filter after you burn all the cleaner out.

i use the tecron stuff.

about how long does is take to burn the cleaner out...and should I pour this stuff in before I am filling up with gas, or could I just walk out to my car right now and dump it in?

going through a full tank of gas will get the majority of it out

and each cleaner is different, some say full tank, some say empty just read the instructions on the bottle.

The only off the shelf fuel system cleaner I like is Chevron's Techron additive. However, currently I am using a fuel system cleaner made up of Neutra 131 and Fuel Power.

I recommend using a fuel cleaner every couple of oil changes, making sure to add it on a near empty tank before getting gas.

I perfer to run SeaFoam, Chevron's Techron or even Valvolines cleaner. If I'm working on a car that needs some serious cleaning, I won't put it in the fuel... straight into the intake manifold for that. Just unhook two vacuum lines (one for constant air and one to stick down into the bottle of cleaner; in order to help keep the car idling so you don't have to rev it up while working) and put one of the tubes into your cleaner bottle and the other just let suck up air. After you've used the cleaner, drive it to burn it all out. The cleaners I use won't mess up your cat or anything.

Don't Know if you guys have used it but the Lucas Fuel System Cleaner works great from what I see. I used it on my pathfinder and crx. I may be thinking of the wrong thing but the first week, when I would go out and start my car, right when it fired up, from what I say was a black puff the shot to the ground which I think is carbon. So that is the only one I've seen that works.

The only good things I've heard about this stuff is what their adverts say. (duh)

But I've been told by an engineer that you don't need this stuff as fuel already has so many detergents and additives that do this already, which makes sense.
