Default Do I need to drop my gas tank?

Okay, my car had been sitting over a year before I bought it. I changed the fuel filter twice, and put fresh gas in (not much though). Then it sat a little while longer, started the same stuff..guess the gas went bad again. Basically, when you take off it's just bogging down to the point of dying. While it's doing it, it sounds like it backfires and stuff. I'm starting to wonder if just draining the bad gas out is getting everything or if there is still stuff left in the tank causing problems. Or even if the filter on the fuel pump is stuck up. Should I take the tank out and have it cleaned. Or will draining it again and putting fresh gas and some kind of fuel system cleaner do the job?

when gas gets old it turns very thick. Should clean the tank out. And if that's not the problem check the fuel pump.
