Default fuel smell?!

We opened up the fuel pump in the back of my rex (so we thought), it ended up being the fuel sensor that measures how much fuel i have. We had to pry it open and scrape some guck off. Now we put it back in and it doesnt fit as tight as we opened it. Now my fuel is way off. Ill have no gas left and it will still be a 1/4 full. Not only that, i guess fuel smell is seeping through and now i can smell it in the car, cant be healthy . Any suggestions on what to do to fix it?? Thanks

Sounds like you bent the metal frame that the fuel float is attached to. You should be able to just bend it back, but you'll have to do some trial-and-error to get it to where it should be.

As far as the odor, that "gunk" that you scraped off from wherever you scraped it off from, was probably sealing the odor in the tank, AND helping the fitment of lid. Get you some new "gunk" and seal that puppy back up. Some liquid gasket should do the trick, just be sure to not over do it.
