Default Fuel pressure regulator install

Just put one on along with new pump. Its a ractive fuel regulator/guage combo. I got the fp where i want it at about 25 at idle, but when i take the vaccum hose off the fp doesnt rise like it should and it doesnt rise with revving the engine. Is it plain and simple that the regulator is bad or is there something else i can check?

Is there a vaccuum signal coming off of that line connected to the fpr? If there is, and the pressure doesn't rise with the hose off, you may have a defective fpr or a leak on it somewhere. What type of fpr is it, a ractive?

There is a vaccum signal coming off the manifold to the fpr, but it makes no difference when removed or pinched. I put the stock one back on and verified that it worked. I guess the fpr is just defective.

Stock is best! For me, since I am sooo poooor. I did the drill a hole in the regulator trick. I went from 45 to 40psi. I regret it in a way, I have to let the fuel pump run for a second before starting the car.......
