Default Front Axle Joint Problem

I was putting bump stops back into my suspension (for some reason the place that origionally put my coilovers on didnt think they were necessary) and in order to do this i unbolted the control arm and all that. No problem... i had taken apart my suspension before so i knew pretty much what i was doing. When i went to bolt everything back together, i couldnt get the control arm to move back into place. so I called up a local suspension place and they said i probably just pulled the axle out too far. They said to take apart the outer axle boot and put the ball bearings back into place, so thats where i am now. I have the boot apart and i can see all the bearings but i cant move any of them. The guy said there was a ring that should pop off and eveything should fall out, and i would just have to put the bearings back in correctly and replace the ring and i would be done. well i cant get the ring off and the bearings wont move so im stuck. any ideas on how to fix this problem?? thanks

Well, actually I thought the INNER joint had the job of telescoping as the suspension flexed. If you push/pull on the axle its the inner one that slides. The tripod bearing can come out of the inner driver. If you pull hard enough you can probably tear the inner boot. Can you check to see if that's what's happenning?

You take the outer joint apart not by pulling straight, but by turning it too far. Like if you disconnect your tie rod & steer 'too far' over. But usually you can't even do that unless you pull the axle out of the joint. There's a spring clip holding it in, that's probably what the shop was saying.
