Default forced induction + high compression, Dangerous????

hey whats up guys, My setup is listed in my sig, I was just wondering if any type of forced induction with my 11:5 compression is bad. If i do decide to go turbo, how much boost is safe for daily driving with my setup, if safe at all? or what shot of nitrous would my motor be able to safely handle? Sorry if this is a stupid question. I appreciate it guys, thanks alot

This is has been a long time debated issue(high or low compression for turbo). That usally comes down to how good the person tuning the engine is. And that anything could be possible with good tuning. But the majority will rule that low compression is better and safer.

Becaue of the high compression it will be more difficult to extract max power out of your engine with boost unless you are going to be running race gas or something like propane injection all of the time to prevent detination.

I know that low compression is better for forced induction. But since I was hoping to keep my block the way it is and not swap my pistons out, how much boost can my engine (with the current setup) handle safely? What about nitrous?

nitrous works well with high compression. how much boost your engine can handle depends on how well tuned your car will be.

eh...still has a huge likeyhood to detonate or pre-ignite, nitrous is bad, the temprature changes how much of a shot you recieve. so if its a warm day at the track he could easily blow it to hell.

i personally wouldnt take the risk of running any boost on a high-comp engine like that. its just not safe. even with the greatest tuner in the world, you are still very limited to what can be done safley.

as for what can be handled safley? there is no way to know for sure till you take it and have it tuned, i sould say under 10lbs with pump gas. but im not tuning your car nor do i know the complete setup.

you can't say 7lbs or 10lbs or anything like that, boost has to many variable to be able to designate a number that is "safe" or "will produce 'x' amount of HP"

High Compression Low Boost -- VS -- Low Compression High Boost

started this topic a few weeks ago, got some good replies, hope it helps.

heheheehe....you dont have 11.5 comp. you have around 12.5...Everybody forgets about compression height.

funny.lets me see

12.5 compression + boost = BOOOOMM

With your setup, I think you would be very pleased with a Nitrous setup, and maybe some more aggressive cams to go with that high compression.

what do you mean I have 12.5 compression? Everywhere I look and ask say that b17 and CTR pistons is 11.5. even on that compression calculator on cityspeed, I think is the name of the website. another question. what cams you guys recommend with my setup? currently I have CTR. so higher compression is better with more aggresive cams? Like skunk2 stage 2's? will I have any clearance issues or anything to worry about? thanks to everyone for their time and feedback.

yea, the calculator at c-speed is wrong. compression height on R pistons is different and the comp. calc does not account for that.
pct's stick .01 out of a b16/b17 block
i think thats a little too high of a compression to do anything but leave it NA

what cams do youi recommend? I am currently using the CTR. Should I go with more aggressive cams? Are more agressive cams better for high compression like mine? sorry if this is a dumb question. Thanks to everyone for their posts
