float and pressed pistons on rods???
i have stock integra rods and im wanting to put them on aftermarket forged pistons. the pistons i have come with locks and pins, but i also have a set of oem pins that came off the rods i already have..im really confused about the difference between floating pin and having the pin and pistons pressed on..from what i understand is i can have the pistons just pressed on with the oem pins at a machine shop and im ready to go..but then i was told that i have to use the pins the pistons that came with the set, slide them right on the rods and use the lock to lock them in..thus the term floating pin...so idk..someone please let me know the difference and all the options as far as getting these aftermarket pistons on stock rods..
Bring the pistons and the pins that came with them to a machine shop. You will not use the locks.A rod for a floating pin (most aftermarket) has a bushing with clearance that allows the pin to move.A press pin rod (oem) has a press fit that doesn't allow the pin to move in the rods.
