Flexalite oil cooler, which filter do I use?
Hey,
Has anyone installed the flex-a-lite model #3951 oil cooler in there honda?
If so, can you tell me what brand / part number oil filter you are using? None of the ones I have tried so far seal properly (Honda / Fram). They both leak at the adaptor.
Thanks!

I know a lot of those kits use a filter from an 85 Toyota Corolla. Kind of handy seeing as how I own one of those too! The filter bodies are the same as the honda, only the mating surface and threads are different. On a related note, you can't get the filter wrench for the smaller oil filters from Honda Special Tools, but the toyota wrench fits perfectly, and is $5 or so.

An 85 corolla? How did you find that out? I never would have thought that would be their first choice. How large is the filter? You have the flexalite universal kit 3955?

I don't have the kit, I saw that on a site selling an oil cooler kit, don't remember the brand or the site, duh for me.
They use that filter I suppose because it's cheap and readily available. It's not just for the corolla, but thats what they specified. They called for that filter in the kits for the fords and chevys too, I wonder what those guys think of that. The filter is the same size as the honda filter.

Now I'm looking at a pic of that kit, you should be able to use the stock filter. Is it leaking from the filter or the lines coming from the adapter?
