Final drive gear questions

Default Final drive gear questions

Ok. I know that there is a guy, forgot his name, with the silver EG and ITR swap, running an ATS final drive...

I want to know what final drive is "too much" for me. I'm looking to build a N/A B18C1, and run the GSR Y80 tranny. I'm looking for something that really moves off the line, but doesn't over-rev my engine on the highway, as I drive in Michigan a lot, usually running 80+mph.

The ATS is a 4.928 final drive gear.


ATS offers this nifty little chart:

OK. so I've looked at the chart, but what's my car going to be doing RPM-wise at 80mph in 5th?

Any other reccomendations/brands of final drives and gear ratios?

In 5th gear, b/w the 4.400, 4.785, and 4.929, all are within 200 to 300 rpm difference of each other, and the 4.929 is about 500 to 600 rpm higher than the 4.400 FD.

that should be about 4900rpm in fifth at 80mph.... i wouldn't think that gearing would be too short for street driving. but that's just my opinion

Ok. Thanks guys...

So, assuming that I stay on top of my tranny oil changes, and am meticulus (I am) about changing engine oil, I should have no ill-effects from prolonged driving on the highway with the final drive?

When I go to Michigan, it's a 7-hour one-way shot. No stopping, and all highway.

Any ideas?

be sure to swap in GSR rad especially w/13:1 comp

B18c5_eh2 is that dude...

I would rock that ATS FD if I had the loot, you can not be unhappy with that gear ratio, I mean your car would be a rocket!
