Fan issues
A friend asked me to post this, however I can't see that there would be any problems, but here goes.
My friend has a 96 cx hb with a d16 swap and im sure that the body
shop put in radiator/fan from a cx (d15). Well the fan doesn't work and he seems to think that it might because of this. However I believe it to be possible the fan relay has gone bad. Anyone know if this could be the case, or possible troouble shooting methods that we don't know. Also a Fan install walkthrough might help, as we are considering pulling it out and reinstalling it incase the body shop did it incorrectly. Thanks

Could be the thermoswitch on the thermostat housing. With the key on, unplug the switch and jump the two-wire terminal on the harness plug....the fan should come on. If so, the switch is bad, very common.
very possible, but first check for the radiator coolant level, if its low and not getting to the switch it will not work.
2nd, swap out the relays with another one right next to it,
and last run a jumper wire directly to the fan to make sure it works!
It will be one of these 3 things.
BTW, the older cars have the fan switch on the back of the block, and they are quite a bit larger than the current one. They will have 2 male "bullet" style connectors on them.
The newer style are usually screwed into the thermostat housing, not the head! The one on the head is the coolant temp sensor for the ECU.

I might be wrong, so double check to make sure.
But aren't the ECT's in different places.
On a d15 I think it's on the back of the block.
And on a B16 it's on the side of the head.
But check to make sure that the ECT is wired correctly, was what I meant to say.
And do the other things that were posted above as well.
HTH
If you have the helms for both cars it should be easy to figure out.

ECT has nothing to do with your fan not coming on. check your FAN TEMPERATURE SWITCH on the thermostat housing. One easy way to cheat it; jump it with a paper clip and see if the fan comes on. This must be done with the key on engine off.
