Default A/F Gauge Wiring

Did search but no good. Was wondering which is more accurate for the a/f gauge to be tap at. The o2 sensor or the ecu? Does it matter? Any difference? Will tapin at the ecu make it less bouncy and more accurate or something? Thanks.

It really doesn't matter because the AM a/f meter is not even remotely accurate.

yeh i know that but would it still make a difference if its tap in the ecu as oppose to the o2 sensor? or vice versa?

it shouldn't make a difference... cuz the wire you tap into the o2 sensor goes to the ecu anyways, so pretty much you tapping in the same wire either way...

A couple of people here have actually swiched from tapping it to the o2 to the ecu and have said that the light actually bounces more evenly and not as erradic. I tapped it at the ecu myself and have had no trouble since.

Ya, I have heard that too. Moreso for the one-wire O2 sensors though.

Hmmmm so it looks like tapin it at the ecu make it more stable from bouncin back and forth?

from an electrical standpoint you should tap at the o2, not the ECU.

would it be better to wire up a cheap multimeter instead??? Just read the voltages?

The refresh rate of a DMM might be too slow to show an accurate O2 'swing'. However, if going for WOT runs....I'd say yes. A DMM has a very high input impedance so as to not load down the O2.

Actually wiring it at the O2 would be the most accurate as far as the signal is concerned (voltage). With the size of the wire used in the O2 section of the circuit and the length, there will be a minimal voltage drop, but nothing to cause any problems.

Either way works, and I can't see it making any real difference at either end. The main point is don't use the A/F meter as an acutally tuning tool, use it as a reference. If you want a meter with actual use...get the Exhaust Gas Temp guage.
