Default A/F gauge doesnt "bounce" - open loop?

i have a chipped ECU, my A/F gauge doesnt "bounce" like they do with stock ECUs? Does this mean im runnin open loop?

Does open loop mean the ECU doesnt use the O2 sensor? Cause I think my O2 sensor is going bad...im not gonna waste my money on an OEM one, gonna get a wideband.

Why not "waste" your money on a new OEM O2 sensor...you already wasted it on that A/F gauge.

I'm not wired up to an o2... my gauge doesn't bounce either.

I wanted to have an IDEA of what kind of A/F ratio I am running with my turbo kit. For $30, it's better than nothing. Not the best, but that's why I'm getting a wideband.

what program are you running. Mine bounced on the stock obd2 ecu. when i got it chipped with the PYR obd1 it didn't bounce at all. Now I have Uberdata on a JDM b16 basemap and it bounces at partial throttle.

its a custom program for NA, i bought it from IH8RICERZ here on HT. Also, im running a RevHard 2C kit, with fuel pump and FMU. Basically, the only time it moves is when I let off the gas.

if your A/F gauge doesnt bounce then your running to rich. those "chips" usually do that. the person who made the chip probably added 10 or more percent of fuel everywhere on the fuel map and calles it "custom"

it should be running in closed loop at idle, crusing speeds and light partal throttle and only go into open loop at WOT.

For whoever can benefit:

Grassroots Motorsports has a great introductory article about wideband and narrowband O2 sensors. It's in the Oct '04 edition.
