Exhaust Manifold
I have a 98 Civic lx my exhaust manifold cracked i brought to where i bought it from and they are telling that a new one is going to cost $400. Also he told that this is going to keep cracking after i replace it. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this.
It shouldn't be cracking, is there some aftermarket exhaust on there that is pulling on the stock mani or something? The cast mani should outlast the car? Something about it isn't right

It is, and it a very common problem, it happened to me too.
Best bet is to get an aftermarket cat and an exhaust manifold from a vtec engine of the same body style.

Well I work at a honda dealer, so I'll tell you whats up. The civic manifolds with the integrated catalytic converter have a problem with cracking. It usually starts around the oxygen sensor at the top, and runs from the front to the back over the top between cylinders 2 and 3. Since the catalytic convertor is build into the manifold, it's covered under the 80,000 mile, 8 year federal emmisions warranty. Unfortunately you're out of the coverage period, so it might be time to start spending a little money.

I forgot about those.... Thats right, I remeber hearing about those. I would change that out. Get a differen't sohc mani and get a older(but new)style cat and use that setup.
