Default exhaust components

im looking into getting a new exhaust system for my car. how much of a difference does crush bent piping compare to mandrel bent piping? i know mandrel is better, but its more costly. anyone have dyno sheets to compare for this?

also, what about resonators? do they hurt performance much? i don't like loud exhausts, so i'll probably want one.

any input is appreciated. thanks

If you can afford the mandrel go ahead and get it but it's not goin to really help you out power wise. The downside to crush bent is around a bend you start to lose the interior diameter so if you get a 2.5" pipe it's not really gonna be 2.5" all the way back.... The way i feel is it is fine just to go with crush bent even tho i love the look of mandrel. Power wise i can't really tell much difference even with 2.5" mandrel and 2.25" crush on a GSR EG. If you run at the track then just run open header if you feel that it is being too restrictive. It's really just up to you.

What? Where did you get that little tidbit of missinformation? You lose around 1/2in of cross-sectional flow area with a 90° crush-bend, as compared to losing zero with a mandrel-bend. Have you ever seen a header that was crush-bent? There's a reason for that. On the other hand, the flow characteristics of an exhaust system are only as good as it's smallest cross-section after the header. So if your header collector is only 2in, then getting 2.5in crush-bent exhaust piping will not be much, if any, of a hinderance on performance, as it's smallest cross-section will still be a bit bigger than the size of the collector.
