Default engine wont start....could it be timing?

i just finished troublshooting all sorts of crap on my d16z6 swap into an 89 lx, i have no ecu trouble codes, no check engine light, its trying to turn over it just wont....also i just put in a new distributor cap and rotor and i AM getting spark!!

someone suggested that my timing could be way off, with my cam and the distributor not in sync, the valves might be open when the distributor is igniting so instead of combusting the fuel in a closed chamber, the fuel is just dumping...can this happen...if so what can i do!!!?

then its fuel or timing related.
check the teeth on your camgear and crank pulley.
