i have a 92 civic lx, had a valve crack and had to do a valve job on it, and got the cylinder head reconditioned/cleaned. i put the cylinder head back on, had everything lined up, with the timing marks and #1 cylinder, and loosley bolted the electric distributer on so i could adjust the timing once it got warm. it took two cranks to start up, and ran fine, everything sounded good, but after a couple of minutes the engine just shut off. didn't putter or anything. then i restarted it, started right up, but i had to keep pedal down to keep it running. i let off a little too much and it died. now it wont run or start up. there is spark and gas and everything is cranking.
another interesting thing is that there is a clicking sound coming from the transmission when i crank it and the mph gauge jumps all over the place, up to like 120. then on a couple other tries, i move the automatic shifter back and forth and try it again and it doesn't click or move the gauge.

i have no idea what the problem is, why it the engine started and ran then wont anymore. i am pretty handy with a carburated system but don't know too much about efi. it seems like something electrical, ignition module is my only guess. i think there could be something more to it. any guesses or places to start would be a great help. i am confounded by this problem, thanks so much for your time and help.

 

Check your ground and make sure your timing belt didn't come loose.
