Default Engine starts but struggles for seconds.

Hello. New problem. On the first start of the day the engine cranks and starts in less than a second. The rpms go up to about 1300 (my normal cold speed), in about 2 seconds it goes down to 200 rpm's, as if it were struggling. This lasts about 2 seconds and then goes back up to 1300 rpm's and will not fail again in the day. This has only happened 3 times, I have yet to try accelerating when this happens.

The obvious has already been checked like the ECT, tested out good. Almost all sensors are new. No vacuum leaks (it wouldnt matter when engine is cold anyway).

I am thinking injectors, maybe too much fuel.

I have another problem but it might not have anything to do with this problem since it started over 6 months ago. The engine take about 5 seconds of cranking after I have driven around and then sat for 15 minutes or more. ONLY after letting it sit more than 15 minutes. If I start it back up in 5 minutes it will take less than a second to start.

This new problem is more of a worry since it sound like it is struggling. it goes down to 200 maybe even 100 rpm's. It looks like it is going to stall, and stays this way for about 2 seconds, so it does not look good. After this no other symptoms appear.

Any ideas?

100 + views and no one. I'm new to this site but I can tell u that many ppl won't help b/c they want u to do the research yourself first.

But...since seeing that I too had a similar situation on my integra...the first thing would be collecting info such as....

http://www.superhonda.com/forum/f55/...oblems-259965/

There's plenty of other resources and write ups....great ones from this site as well...

It would also be very helpful to others to help if u please state make/model/year as well.

gl with ur situation

this could actually be a leaking head gasket issue ...you should compression test your motor...i hope not but you should test to be sure

has the motor ever overheated ?

I forgot to mention. It is a 93 civic lx d15b7 engine. I have investigated, but I can not find any info with the same symptoms, discarding everything I have discarded. I always wait until I cant find any more info to post a thread.

I Know it is not the iacv of fitv since I just rebuilt them about 2 months ago. And Idle speeds are good. I also changed the tps.

Everything I have changed of fixed has been checked again to make sure it is not causing the problem.

The engine has been rebuilt not long ago and has 160psi across all cylinders. The head gasket is new, all bearings have been changed, valve lashes have been done, Injectors cleaned, thottle body cleaned.

I have a theroy but I have not been able to find info on google. It takes longer to start when warm, so I am thinking leaking injectors. It starts easy in morning beacuase the gasoline leaked into engine has evaporated or seeped past piston rings into oil.

Maybe the oil has too much gasoline and cant lubricate enough. This is just a theory, I have checked the oil and I cant smell gasoline in it, but it might not have enough to smell. Is there anyway I can verify this?

Have u replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs, or heck even the pvc....easy stuff to check and cheap stuff to replace....

Have u tried running an additive such as the chevron techron cleaner...only thing I use b/c I read somewhere that that's the stuff honda recommends (don't qoute me on this though).

Uhmmm weak starter...sry just throwing stuff out there.

fuel filter, spark plugs, pcv, rotor, cap, air filter, everything has been changed in the las couple of months. It wouldnt be the starter since the problem is after it has started.

is your fuel pump priming with now issue. i recently had a bad main relay and sounds like your starting issue but not your idling issue.
have you raised the idle up at all to see if you can get a nice smooth idle.
also to are you turning anything on that could be stressing the alternator to work more

Ok. I think I have found the issue. There is two injectors that leak when off. It seems like it is flooding cylinder no1. Can leaking injectors be fixed? they had been cleaned not too long ago.

Cylinder no1 spark plug is soaking in gas, the other leaking injector, no4, does not wet the spark plug, so it seems like when it is running rough, it is because the no1 cylinder is not igniting.

Ok I sent my injector to be cleaned and checked. They told me they tested out good and no more leaking. I just installed them and now it runs smoothly again. But a new problem has occured. Smoke coming out of exhaust, when I turned the car on. After about 30 seconds of running the smoke stopped. I ran around a couple of blocks at high rpms and there seems to be no smoke. What could this be? smoke only when starting cold. It looked like white, maybe oil (blue) smoke.

Another update. The head gasket has blown at cylinder no4. That is where the smoke was coming from (hopefully). Cylinder no4 would spit out coolant when turning engine with spark plug removed. I have removed old gasket and tomorrow I will buy a new gasket. Are metal gaskets better? I ask since I had bought this gasket en January and it already has blown. Or what should I look for in a head gasket?

I would advise you but you probably wouldn't listen anyhow. It's pretty obvious what's going on with your car now.
I'm just happy I was right. lol

Good luck.

It not that I wouldn't listen to you. The head gasket is almost new, I put it on in February. I wasnt going to take the head off just beacause someone thought it was a head gasket problem. If you check all my other posts with different problems, there is alwas someone who says its the head gasket. And the car has not been overheated since. I dont understand how it could blow that quickly. And there was a problem with the injectors leaking. Cylinder no4 injector was leaking a lot.
