engine set up for lsturbo w/ nos
i have a nos (60 shot) ls integ directport and i want to add a turbo boosting 10psi. what set up do i need, to build my motor so it won't blow? Thank you i advance.
correct tunning is the key, stock piston and rods handle a lot of boost and abuse, but they will def not hold up to detonation. But asides from that on to building your motor, it really will vary from opinion to opinion, you could do rods and pistons, or you could sleeve the block. do a search in the forced induction forum for each, theres tons of stuff there.
personally i would buy a longer rods a deck plate and forged pistons. the cranks have been known to withstand 600 turbo hp! just a light dressing with some microfinishing paper, clena the oil galleys with solvent and brushes, also maybe screw in oil plugs instead of the pressed in for the crank throws. i would want to get the most favorable stroke to rod ratio as possible becasue then you won't need as much overlap i nthe cam and you can run a shorter overlapped intake. good for cylinder filling. as for pistons if you can find ones get ones with the piston pin location moved higher so that you wont bump up the compression and possibly ones that have the oil ring located in the pin bore. definately H- beam rods no question. if your going to use a direct port nitrous kit try to get a nitrous commander on which will automatically retard timing for you when the nitrous is commanded on. yes it is only 60 but the boost combined has the effect of raising compression ratio. you really want to avoid detenaion. and as for exhaust using turbo is bad enough but nitrous on top of that you will need at least a 3 inch exhaust system to handle the exhaust being dumped otherwise you may never see the hp potential that could be. good luck
