I'm on my way to rebuilding the engine since I finally got all the stuff back from the machine shop.
They installed and performed the following services:
.removed the old valve seals and valve spring seats (isn't hard, but I just ran out of time)
.new valve guides (I'm praying to God that they put the right ones in the right side b/c the part numbers are different)
.recut the valve seats and backcut the valves so that they have a fresh seal
.ball honed the cylinder bores to break the glaze (doesn't leave behind the cross-hatching pattern tho)
.pressed out the old main seals on the flywheel cover and oil pump, and pressed in new seals
.check the block and head decks for straightness
.checked the weight balance of the new JDM ITR pistons against the old GS-R pistons...they came out 8 grams heavier b/c of the higher dome ->internal balancer guy (owner of the shop) said that 8g's wasn't a big deal, so he didn't do anything to the internal balance of the internals
.pressed out the out wrist pins and installed the new pistons/wrist pins on my rods
.hot tanked the block and head
Other work that might be nice, but not needed for my application:
.deburring and polishing the rods
.followed by shotpeening
.micropolishing the crank and rod journals
.porting the intake ports
.porting the intake manifold
I spent some time today to take a few pics and install the valve spring seats.
Installing valve spring seats:
1.) Dip them in oil (that's what the BK cup is for)
2.) Slide them over the valve guide. Doesn't matter which one goes where b/c they're the same for intake an exhaust. As long as you have (8) total.
3.) Push them down so that they seat evenly all the way around
4.) If necessary use a deep socket to tap them down so that they seat all the way and evenly all around
5.) Proceed to install the valve seals on top of the seats. The valve seals are colored coded.

That's all for now.
