Default Engine only revs to 3000rpm

I just recently installed a new (used) motor in my 97 prelude, the car idles fine but wont rev past 3000rpm and seems to be stuck in limp mode. The ecu is throwing a crank position sensor (p0335) but i was wondering if there is any way i could check to see if the CPS is working properly before i pull everything out and buy a new sensor. I really need to get the car back on the road so any help is appreciated.
