Does your car start/run?
You can check the crank sensor with an ohm meter, there should be a spec for it. Or if you have access to a O-Scope is the best!!

Usually the car won't even start if the crank sensor is FUBAR. It's the most important sensor on the car as far as actaul engine operation goes.

Re: ckp sensor help!!!!
The sensor might be going out, but yeah I'm pretty sure it wouldn't start if it was completely not working. The crank sensor is what the ECU uses to find its firing order. At least on any other car i've ever worked on, you pull the CKP and the car will not start. IDk if on the hondas it might be part of the distributor. so check that out.

Yeah definately. I'm having the exact same problem. But I'm not sure where it's at on a D series.... If it's not in the distributor, it would be behind the timing belt cover, connected to the oil pump.

Cool then.
You can buy one from honda for 175$.... Pretty pricey, and not to mention, if you don't have the tools to remove and reinstall your crank pulley, installing a new one at a shop may be pricey as well.

Re: ckp sensor help!!!!
You will need a multimeter. When you have the crank pulley, and the timing belt cover off, you will have to put the prongs in the first, and last sockets to test successfully test it.
But if you're getting a check engine light for it, it's very possible that it's just bad. From what I hear, they rarely just 'wiggle' loose. So it would be a good time to check to see if the connections are good, and or if the brackets for the CKF sensor is securely mounted. And be sure to check for any wire damage. I have heard stories about people having work done to their timing belt and some mechanics leaving the CKF sensor touching the timing belt.

Re: ckp sensor help!!!!
you could just do the ckp bypass. not responsible if you mess up your car tho
i had to do it due to my jdm motor swap but staying obd2. since jdm motors didn't have the crank sensor doing the bypass doesn't really affect me in anyway.

Re: ckp sensor help!!!!
It hasn't effected you because your ECU thinks it's there.
What swap did you do? Are the engines identical?
You could have just switched, or bought an oil pump with the sensor for that identical engine, in the USDM version.
But I guess since it worked out right for you, then more props.
But I highly suggest not doing it, titosek4. Though it may work, do stuff the right way the first time around. And you won't regret it later, and/or run the chance of messing your vehical up.

Re: ckp sensor help!!!!
i had the same swap the OP has. y7/y8 head. now its a jdm gsr. and i had to do the ckp bypass cuz i didn't wanna pay for a new usdm oil pump. hehe.
i think of it like this. if the japanese didn't need the ckp on this motor i shouldn't either. and as of right now i have no CEL been like that for over 1.5 years.

Re: ckp sensor help!!!!
I don't think it's the ecu now, I tested my car with my friends virgin p28 and my car still throws a ckp cel. Anyone else have this issue or any thoughts?
