Default Engine help and stuff for a noob

I just bought my first civic. It's a 1997 Civic CX Hatchback. The only thing on it now is the AEM intake, which was on it when i bought it. I want to make it a lot quicker than it is and try to make it decent enough to drag so it can actually keep up with other cars in it's class. I'd been thinking possibly a turbo, but i'm pretty sure i'd need to get a new engine. does anyone have any advice or information about what would be best for me to do?

Well how many miles are on that engine?

If you were to get a turbo kit, a mild cam, a chipped ecu, and a tune you could have a pretty quick and fun car to drive, but id say if the engine has over 130k i wouldnt bother, and of course that would be the cheaper way to go, how much money are you looking to spend?

dont bother with bolt on stuff like headers and stuff like that, its not gona do anything

a dc sport header would help and a better intake mani. i wouldn't run stock internals if it's going to be a "drag" car.

it depends on what he's going for, fun and fast when he wants it to be, if so i don't think he should boost it, his engine would ruin far faster then if he was an "all-motor" kind of guy. plus, all motor builds can be extremely fast.

as he said, he's pretty sure he'd need to get a new engine, so he's looking to drop a good bit of cash,

for a turbo build i'd go with a b16a, all motor a b18 because they throw down more torque.

thanks for the advice. i looked up videos and stuff about the b16a, but i couldn't find how much one would cost. i know vtech's cost like 2000-3500, would one of those be better for the turbo and stuff. oh and a drag car is kind of what i was going for.
