Engine has been sitting for awhile
hey my motor has been sitting for about a year. its never been started. it has oil in it. the last time the crank was turned to get a lil oil thru the system was about a year ago. (i was gonna try to start it then but the fuel system wasnt quite done yet and then i ended up moving to 2 different states and a theif of engine parts set me back) anyways my question is
what should i do before trying to start it?

Change the oil and flush the coolant system.

remove plugs and insert LITTLE oil in there and allow to soak in. Then w/ plugs still off crank to let oil in the system w/o starting it let it crank long enough to get oil everything then try and actually start it. This is what I would do, but don't know if it's a good idea :
well, ASSUMING that there is no way for water/moisture to enter the engine, meaning, i hope for your sake you blocked off the inlet exhaust ports or mufflers to stop it geting in, theres no reason to worry, cos theres no way for water to enter the engine, id do as the guy above stated(forgot your name sorry) and you should be sweet!
good luck
good luck
rust is caused by oxygen, not water. well in a sense water, cause oxygen is in water. just to let ya know. i think thats what you were getting at with the moisture thing.
i had already planned to pre-lube. its before i got to that point that i was a lil uncertain of pertaining to my situation. but im sure ill be fine with my original plan

I swapped a old d16a6 that had been sitting almost 2 years with oil into my wife's car, all we did was change the oil then pull the plug wires and the injector wires and let the car turn over for about 30 seconds until the oil light went off, then we hooked everything up and started it up. I had it compression tested after that and it was fine, so what we did was ok it seems.
