Engine Building from Scratch.....where to start?
Engine Building from Scratch.....where to start? Where can i learn to do this thang!....I'd love to build an engine from scrach for my turbo project. deassembling to assembling to installation.....school? books? resources?
I've done this to a B18b last year.
Get ready to spend A LOT of money. Just the measuring tools will cost well over five hundred. A decent bore gage will cost around $250. And you'd need couple of them for different sizes, micrometers of different sizes, etc. But it sure is fun!
Yeah, get the Helms, as well as other books and read them up!

yea helms, i got one, it's the most valueable purchase ever, knowledge is power
although i really havent started using mine, but tools is the other key, need the proper tool to get the job done right, patience, money! since your going turbo and want to build your own engine, i say you purchase a bareblock and have it resleeved before you begin your rebuild

have someone (not your friend who builds 14-sec all motor) that can tech you is the best way to learn in my opinion.
helms is just a manual, yes i have one, and yes it is important to have one but
it does not teach you all the how-to. and the tricks.
tools yes, but you can borrow all these for the 1st time you learn from your friend
who knows how to and who have experience.

There are numerous books out there about building engines. Most of them are not Honda specific. Get those books and start reading!
