Default Engine Building?

Im planing on building my engine (my self) when I get all the parts. What are my options for the bearings that go between the crack and rod, and the crank and block. What are the technical names for these bearings. is there any aftermarcket ones or should I stick with OEM honda? Can someone also do a step by step process of the plasticguage thing. I get the basic concet, I would just like someone to elaborate on it. Planning:

b18c block
golden eagle sleeves
je pistons
eagle rods (don't think crowers are worth the price)

main and connecting rod bearings. you lay down the plastigadge then torque down the area (like the main cap) to the torque spec then measure it with the device ( forget the name) then it will tell you the clearances. Then check a manuel if the clearaces are correct.

First off definitely get a Helm's manual (www.helmsinc.com) for the correct year car you're working on. To find out what bearings you need to use for the main journals and connecting rods, you have to read the numbers and letters stamped on the block and on the crankshaft and rods. It's all explained in the Helm's manual. Here's a couple links about using Plastigauge... http://www.snowvalley.20m.com/bikes/plstgage.htm http://www.awsem.co.uk/plastiguage.htm
Personally I don't think you should try to undertake this task without the help of someone with experience..Good luck!

I agree. If you're spending that much money on parts, you should have the shortblock assembled by a pro.

I totally disagree. There is only one way to learn and that is to do it yourself. JUST GET a helms, engine stand etc. Building motors really isn't hard at all, just stay organized.

I want to assemble it my self. Im pretty sure the only guy in my area who works on hondas will help/teach me how to do it, maybe even walk me through it as im assembling the bottom end. He is really cool lke that. I would even pay him to teach me if I had too. The bottom line is I want to do it my self for the most part, even if I need help. If I just pay someone to do it I will never learn how to do it.
