Default Engine build question

Whats up guys, i have a somewhat noob question. Doing my first engine build and just finished taking out the rods. I want to know how do i measure the bearing clearance so i know what bearings to get? (standard, oversized). Am i supposed to plastigage it with the stock used bearings?

that last post was awesome. I really appreciated the help. My last question is how are there "sets" of bearings from acl when supposedly the bearings are different from journal to journal?

The bearings from acl are "one size fits all". If you check yyour clearances and they vary too much I would recommend using the color chart and staying with oem bearings. if they vary a lot and you wish to go with acl I would get the crank micro polished have the mains align bored larger and run with ovrsz acl

cool, i get it. I would love to just run oem bearings but they run for around $12 a bearing. That turns out to be a crap load.

if u look at the 5 letter stamped on the block and then at the letter on the crank u can spec out wat color bearings your engine will need therefore you will know if u can use the acl bearings which are closer to the factory green bearings...
