Default engine blew, need help now. please

I just got a zex 55 wet shot installed. it worked great for like 2 runs.. then 3rd run at about 7:30 pm the power cut out and felt like it was misfiring. I didnt feel any vibration, no unusal sound, everything seemed normal except the power in my car was cutting out. The engine was running at the time but then it stopped. So I was still rolling because at that point I had put the car in neutral because I didnt know what the hell was going on. And I noticed the engine was off when I was stepping on the gas and it did nothing but I could hear bursts of nitrous going through. So I start the car back up, and then I heard and felt a HUGE POP. And I saw smoke soming out of the back of my car. I pulled over and popped the hood, my intake pipe was disconnected from the TB and the air filter was litterally blown to pieces. All that was left of the filter was some plastic shards and some mesh wiring that was disfigured and the filter material itself.

It was able to start back up but it was misfiring big time. Like I was getting almost no power. But it ran. Because the problem is, is that I cant call my parents obviously. Becuase if they find out, the car will be sold. I didnt want to call AAA because then that means my parents will find out. So I got ahold of the guy that installed the nitrous and we took the car to the shop. We took the spark plugs out and 3 of the 4 had tips missing. and the 1 that had one still looked like ****. And I was running NGK iridiums. We replaced the plugs with new NGK's and it started up and sounded and felt better, but it was still misfiring.

I can hear a clanking noise and I have no idea what it is. But its running. and it has more power then it did when it first blew.

The only theory I can think of , is that when the engine cut out and I was stepping on the pedal, the nitrous that I heard was building up in the intake/ and intake manifold. and when I started it back up, it ignited the nitrous. therefor causing the the filter to blow up. But I have no idea why the engine missfired before the engine cut out.

So basically, what I want to know, is why this happened, what that noise could be, at best how long will it take to repair, and then at worst how long, What all the possible thigns that could be wrong and how to fix. So really, if you have any information that could be useful, id really appreciate it. My car is my baby and my daily driver, and I need this fixed as soon as humanly possible. So Any help would be great.

Im taking it to the shop tomorrow to get it checked out and fixed. And im trusting that they will take care of me. But If I could provide them with any extra info from you guys that would be great. Im taking a compression tester with me tomorrow too to check that out. And from now on, im not touching nitrous till I get my engine built and it was a stupid mistake. But as of now, the nitrous bottle and the zex box thing that connects the nitrous line and fuel line, are both take out. So it looks like there was no nitrous at all. Only thing left is the line that goes from the back of my car where the bottle was to the engine bay. but I hid that as best as possible.

Heres my engine set up as I think its best to know.
EG6 ( my car )
B18c1 swap
dc sports headers
skunk2 cams
aem cam gears
70 mm intake pipe
( had ) ngk iridium spark plugs ( now have ngk R's )
ngk spark plug wires
pwr radiator
( had ) Zex 55 wet shot nitrous system
all stock internals minus the cams

Once again, any and all info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

I had the same problem happen to my crx.. It melted like 6 valves and weakend the pistions.. I replaceed the valves in the head and drove it for another 3 months perfectly.. I installed my turbo setup on to it and the boost found the hairline cracks in the pistons and blew it apart..

I would do a compression test and if that fails then you did some damage to the internals somewhere..

Hopefully the missing plug tips went out the exhaust valves before doing damage to the head and pistons. A compression check is deffinatly in order. And in the future, if you suspect that nitrous has been injected while the car is not running, pull the plugs and crank it over a few times before trying to start it. I've heard of people breaking head studs and blowing head gaskets apart from similar events.

Yeah theres no visible leak from the engine so I dont think its a gasket or studs. the guy is starting to work on it now so we dont know anything yet. But im thinking it could be my valve seals ( sp? ) lol.. Because I been burning oil pretty quickly. like a half quart maybe 1 quart a week. depends on my driving... But the thig is, is that it sounds just like the time my spark plugs went bad when I drove through water. it sounds fine when I down shift but I dont know if thats normal in any case.

And now that I think about it, I really dont think the big bang I heard and felt did any damage at all besides to the air filter. Because like I said, It started to misfire in the middle of the run but there was no vibration or noises .. So my guess would be a seal of some sort besides the head gasket and such. Like maybe the valve seal's or valves, maybe piston rings. Becuase I dont think I broke a piston rod. I dont think the car would run like that... But I guess we wont know till he pulls it apart today.

In the case the head has to come off... about how long would it take to take it all off and put back together assuming all the parts are here?

Depending on how fast you work and if you know what your doing.. I can take a b-series head off in about an hour and about 1.5 hours putting it back on.. Rebuilding the head depends on if you have the tools to do it all.. I would say like 2-3 hours total..

A buddy and me rebuilt and engine in one evening. Replaced the pistons, rods, rings etc. .. started around 7 and got done a little after midnight. It really doesn't take that long if you have all the parts there and don't run into anything unexpected.

Who knows though, it really depends on the situation.

when this first happened, it ran on 1 spark plug because the other 3 were bad. So I know 1 cylinder is ok. But when I replaced the plugs, it ran better. So im assuming that total, at least 2 cylinders are fine. How much could the total come out to if the worst was to happen to those other 2 cylinders?

Results to the compression check are:

1: 180 .. 2: 180 .. 3: 0 .. 4: 180

so basically im screwed.
im going to probably have to get a new head/block .. so ill post again with any more info I get.

I guarantee you cracked the ringlands, order a set of p30 or itr pistons, new rings, and plan on finding a burnt/bent valv in cyl 3.

my dad and I pulled the valve cover, and he checked the springs and such and said that everything looks like its normal. So I doubt the valvetrain is bad. At least all but the valve seals... But the oil smelt like it was burnt.. But correct me if im wrong cuz I think that has to do with the valve seals..

I might pull the head off today. but the thing is, is I have never done that before. So I really have no idea what im doing after the valve cover comes off. Also. I need to be able to drive the car about 2 or 3 miles to the shop I go to for the valve job.

but, is there any way my dad can find out that I was using nitrous by taking the head off? Because I really cant let him know that...

besides saying that were obviously being a little dumb for using nitrous without caution, he shouldn't be able to tell you used it, just pull the head, and you'll know exactly what to replace/repair. it's really not hard, just get a manual and follow directions.

actually, im not going to do it myself. I dont want to accidently break something or whatnot. But im going to do an oil change and put a sifter in front of the oil catch can to see if anything comes out.
