Default emissions passing idea

well truck guys do on-board air for trails, which is basically an air compressor mounted to their motors run by a belt, or an electric compressor that feeds a 2.5 gal tank normally mounted under the bed so they can run air tools or air their tires on the trail and in emergencies etc

my idea:
on-board air but no tank, that runs the air hose directly into your exhaust, sort of like a feed-back dumptube.

thinking:
putting a lot of compressed air into your exhaust lowers the ratio of the harmful gases since they are read in parts per million.
this way you kinda trick the meter into seeing a smaller percentage...

If the meter is constructed properly, you would also see a decrease in CO2 and an increase in O2, which would indicate an emissions system malfunction. If the meter is just looking for CO, hydrocarbons, and NOx, it could be fooled by the dilution. Of course, the tech is supposed to do a visual inspection.

Yeah, if there's too much fresh air, the machine will report a diluted mixture, and stop the test. This is the same reason why you can't just hold the probe behind the car, you have to have the right levels of all 5 gasses, assuming it's a 5 gas analyzer that is.

why tamper with ur exhaust readings?
if ur car is running fine u will pass tailpipe emmisions with no problem

besides u will save gas which pays off in the long run

just a small amount of air?

theres also really easy ways you could hide this thing too. if it were mounted like an AC compressor and you ran the lines hidden, they wouldnt see it. you could always say it was some performance thing anyway.

That's not a new idea - some cars already have factory air injection. Try googling it or something.

A gallon of denatured alchohol and 87 octane. Should pass no problem.

denatured as in isopropyl? in the tank

interesting..lol started in the late 60's
Purpose: Essentially an emissions "add-on" installed by the automakers to help further clean up emissions, the air injection system supplies air to the exhaust stream to promote additional burning of exhaust gases such as hydrocarbons (abbreviated as HC) and carbon monoxide (abbreviated as CO). Some systems also supply air to the catalytic converter to further reduce HC, CO and oxides of nitrogen (NOx), a major contributor to photochemical "smog."

Then they shouldn't be on the street.

Older cars had air injection systems because they ran rich. The extra air was needed to burn the hydrocarbons in the exhaust stream. Fuel injected cars should run near stoichiometry if they are tuned properly. Some people tune them rich to compensate for high compression, high boost, or nitrous applications. If they run the proper octane rating, they can achieve stoichiometry and more than likely pass emmisions.

First off, what you are suggesting is illegal. Technically, it could work if you injected the corect amount of air for a catalyst to work properly. Simply diluting an exhaust stream laden with hydrocarbons and NOx most likely would not pass and is not correct. I'm not bashing.

You could potentially make the emmisions pass for a vehicle running rich by incorporating a computer with another O2 sensor to control your supplemental air pump stream and running an appropriate catalytic converter. However, it would technically be illegal. You'd have to look into the intricacies of OBDII law and CARB. Perhaps there is a way to get such a system approved.
