Default electrical geniuses needed...

here's my issue...

my 1995 civic ex (d16z6) was originally an automatic. i converted it to a manual but didn't switch the ecu. it ran fine, except for the cruise control no longer working, and only had a cel for the lock up control solenoid. i could set the cruise, but it wouldn't hold. other than that, it never presented a problem. it was wired to trick the car into thinking it was constantly in neutral so that it would start. it also starts without having to disengage the clutch. i don't have a clutch safety switch or the slightest idea of what they look like or how to put one in.

i just put in the jdm b16a2 that came with the manual tranny and matching ecu. i swapped over the wiring harness from my civic and added the knock sensor. i don't have the lock up control code anymore. i can still start my car regardless of what my clutch is doing. obviously i still have the interior wiring harness, and that's where i think i'm getting these problems from. so here are my questions:

1. is there an actual difference in ecu's between the manuals and automatics, or is it just the pins used from the harnesses that tell the ecu whether it's being used with an automatic or a manual?

2. there are 5 wires, according to http://tech2.hybridgarage.com/..._obd1 that have to do with the automatic. can i just pull these out so that they aren't drawing current or whatever? (sorry, i'm still a little vague on the whole electrical thing)

3. if i can just pull them out, do i have to install a clutch safety switch to be able to drive my car?

4. if i can't pull them out, can i put the "neutral" (transmission position) wire and "drive" wire into a grounded, toggle switch so that i can put it in neutral to start it and in drive to get the cruise control to work?

i have a 1200 mile drive a few days ahead of me, and i'd really love to have my cruise working!

5. also, i'm getting the knock sensor code. i wired it in, but i didn't use shielded wire. (some people on here said it worked without it) now i haven't had a chance to check it yet, but is it most likely just a bad connection somewhere, or does the wire have to be grounded?

i really appreciate anyone who even made it this far into my post, and really, really appreciate anyone who's got a good answer for me. TIA

There is a difference between manual and automatic ECU's. Go to Hondata's website and download the installation manual-it includes instructions on how to convert an automatic ECU to a manual. I have done it, and it works. If you are using the P28 ECU that came with your car, you are not getting a knock sensor code; P28 ECU's do not use a knock sensor.
Check your brake switch adjustment-if the switch activates too high, the cruise control won't set.
The clutch safety switch is there to prevent you from starting the car in gear and running into the car parked in front of you. You don't need one to drive the car-older Hondas did not even have the clutch safety switch.

i guess i neglected to mention that i'm using a p30 now, the one that came with the motor.

here's what i found on hondata:

Conversion from automatic to manual

RP18 needs to be lowered in value from 2.4k ohms to 1.4k ohms.

is RP18 supposed to be the same as D18? cuz D18 an a/t circuit labeled ICU. or is it just a coincidence? and how do i lower the ohms value?

the cruise control does set. it just doesn't hold. the green light on the switch and on the gauge cluster both light up, but speed drops every time.

thanks for your help!

The cruise will not work if the vehicle is in neutral. If you have the set to neutral all the time like say then you will need to change it back. The cruise computer needs to see a ground from the auto shift position console switch or the clutch switch. If no ground is present the cruise disengages. You will need to wire the clutch switch in to make it work properly.
