Electrical Experts Please Read!!
Ok, here's the deal. Me and a buddy recently installed a turbo kit on his h22 accord. We had everything hooked up except fot the downpipe. So we drove it about a mile to the muffler shop to have it welded. Since there was no DP and the turbo exhaust was aimed right at the alternator, it melted the coating off of the alternator wires, and melted the harness plug into the alternator. Woops! After the downpipe was installed, we wrapped the naked wires with electrical tape and drove it back. On the way there the speedometer and rpm needles started going crazy! And the whole cluster got very dim, check engine light and all. We drove it a little more and noticed a significant power loss. We were sure it was the alternator, so we had it rebuilt. We installed the fresh alt and it worked ok for a couple minutes. then the same problem with the speedo and rpm needles came about. We bearly coasted into the parking lot with no starting power. I figured we fried the Electric load detector in the fuse box, so we replaced the entire underhood fuse box. We still have the same problem. What else could it be? All the fuses, in the cab and under the hood are fine. any ideas? thanks in advance!

THat or when the coating from the alternator wires melted...it may have shorted between the two (or more) and melted wires back through you're fire wall...try to trace your wires around your engine bay and look for other melted ones because if they shorted they may have melted in other places...if the battery idea and this doesn't work...better grab the multimeter and start checking.
